Walter of Baltroddie, bishop of Caithness (d.1270)

Biography
Watt and Murray, Fasti, 78: Walter was canon of Caithness when he was elected bishop to that see, receiving his mandate for consecration on 13 June 1263. He died in '1270'. Watt, Graduates, 25-6: Walter may have been illegitimate and was perhaps from Baltroddie in Gowrie (now Pitroddie, PER), and may have been a member of the Abernethy family. It is said that he had a daughter who married a Mackay. He was master by 1259 and was a canon of Aberdeen, occurring on 1 August 1259. He was also a canon of Caithness. Sometime after 1 August 1259, he was elected bishop by the chapter.
