Walter Lindsay (VI), son of David of Barnweill

Biography
Sir Walter Lindsay (VI) was described in a Paisley charter of probably 1272 as ‘son and heir of the late Christina Hosé’ and, along with Christina’s sister, Matilda, was asserted as an heir of the late Sir John Hosé the knight. The two heirs renewed the gift given by Sir Walter Hosé of the church of Craigie AYR in the 1170s. The most likely scenario whereby a Walter Lindsay in Ayrshire in 1272 was the son and heir of the heiress of Craigie in Ayrshire was for Christina to have married a man named Lindsay. David Lindsay (III)’s estate of Barnweill was also in AYR in the Stewart lordship of Kyle, and it seems quite probable that David Lindsay of Barnweill was indeed the father of Sir Walter Lindsay (VI), son of Christina Hosé. Surprisingly, this Walter does not even appear in Scots Peerage.
