First seal, single-sided, of Patrick, earl of Dunbar (d.1289). The seal depicts the earl on horseback to *sinister*, wearing a flat-topped helmet, chain armour and a surcoat tied around the waist. He holds a sword in his right hand and there is a shield suspended from his neck, bearing arms of a lion *rampant* *contournée*. The cross in the legend is enclosed by a crescent.
