First seal, used in the early 1230s prior to the death of Patrick's father, Earl Patrick. The single-sided seal depicts the (future) earl on horseback to *sinister*, wearing chain armour and a flat-topped helmet. He is holding his sword in his right hand, and on his chest, supported by his left arm, is a plain shield with no charges.
