Dating Notes
Birth of Alexander son of King William × death of Walter Scot the elder, who was dead by the time of King William’s grant to his son, also Walter (<em>RRS</em> ii, no. 404). The testimony of the jurors in the case of Duncan of Arbuthnott at the Synod of Perth in 1206 includes that of Master Isaac, clerk of Bishop Roger of St Andrews, who mentions that he stayed with Elias, the priest of Arbuthnott, while travelling to invite the northern bishops to the consecration of Bishop Roger, which took place on 15 Feb. 1198 (that is, 1197/8) at St Andrews, and that he interviewed the elder Walter Scot on the matter of Duncan of Arbuthnott, and that ‘he saw his death as imminent’. Spalding Misc v, 211. Furthermore, datable to before royal confirmation (<em>RRS</em> ii, no. 413), which Barrow says probably dates to 16 Mar. 1199.
